Lara Vs Tendulkar

A couple of interesting observations here. Although Sachin has played more matches than Lara, he has played lesser innings than the West Indian. Tendulkar’s average is higher than Lara’s because of his greater number of not-outs. But the biggest fact is that Brian Lara’s highest total of 400 is 152 runs more than Tendulkar’s 248. And to top it off, Sachin Tendulkar has yet to score in excess of 300 runs.
Looking at their stats, it would seem that Tendulkar is ahead on points, but then there are those who say statistics never paint the complete picture. So then what would be an accurate way to compare the two? If you talk of consistency, Tendulkar is peerless in contemporary cricket-one of those rarities who hardly seem to go through a bad patch..However, Caribbean fans would be very quick to claim that Lara has the ability to go on to make bigger scores as compared to Tendulkar .. its a never ending debate ..
So, all in all, the two men are different and yet not that different from each other. Both have their own brand of cricket. Both of them prove that, in cricket, size does not matter. And both of these lads have produced some of the most scintillating cricket ever. Cricket has already been a lot poorer since Lara retired. One wonders how much of a loss will the game suffer when Tendulkar hangs his boots...
